The Catcher in the Rye, J. D. Salinger

Like my dear Matthew earlier this month, I was inspired in my choice of book by fear that my English degree (which is now complete, a thank you) would be taken away were it found out I had not yet read it.

I’ll be honest with you all — I didn’t love this book. I didn’t dislike it or anything, but I didn’t go nuts for it the way I know many have. I enjoyed the self-obsessed asshole narrator that is Holden Caulfield, but I didn’t really get him. I couldn’t figure out his motivation for anything, and it kept me from fully engaging with the story.

That being said, it was still a good read. And many smarter people than I have said many wonderful things about The Catcher in the Rye, so it might just be me.
