Essex County is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful collection of three graphic novels (but don’t worry, Bookstravaganza Bros, I’m only counting it as one), Tales from the Farm, Ghost Stories, and The Country Nurse.
Did I mention that it’s beautiful?
The art is stark, black and white – but the characters are vital and colourful and real. Lemire manages to include all manner of Canadiana, from a 1917 schoolmistress to a failed hockey player, farmers and streetcar drivers alike. Read this, all of you.
